AKALIRO ASSUMES COMMAND AS 5TH COMMANDER OF 6 BRIGADE, NIGERIAN ARMY

Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro has formally assumed command as the 5th Commander of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army (NA), and Sector 3 Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS).

The change of command ceremony took place at the Headquarters of 6 Brigade in Jalingo, Taraba State, marking the official handover from the outgoing Commander, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa.

According to the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Lt Umar Muhammad,  the ceremony was attended by senior officers, officers and soldiers of the brigade, and other invited guests.

In his inaugural address, Brigadier General Akaliro expressed profound gratitude to God Almighty and to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the confidence reposed in him and the opportunity to serve in the strategic command.

He commended the professionalism, discipline, and operational achievements recorded under the leadership of his predecessor, pledging to sustain and build upon the legacy through sound administration, professional excellence, effective deterrence operations, and exemplary leadership.

He further assured officers and soldiers of the brigade of his commitment to leading the formation towards enhanced operational effectiveness and mission success, while wishing the outgoing Commander well in his new assignment.

Earlier, in his valedictory address, Brigadier General Uwa expressed deep appreciation to officers and soldiers of the brigade for their loyalty, dedication, and unwavering support throughout his tenure. He attributed the successes recorded during his command to the collective effort, discipline, and professionalism of the troops.

The outgoing Commander urged personnel of the brigade to extend the same level of cooperation, loyalty, and commitment to the new Commander.

He described his time in Taraba State as memorable and fulfilling, noting that the brigade had demonstrated resilience and operational competence in the discharge of its duties.

The ceremony featured the signing of handing-over and taking-over notes, decoration of the new Brigade Commander with the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS insignia, as well as the symbolic lowering and hoisting of flags to mark the transition of command.
