In preparation for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a nationwide special patrol operation, deploying 36,000 personnel and 1,095 logistics assets to manage road safety and traffic flow.
This was announced by the FRSC Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, in a statement released on Wednesday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Mr. Olusegun Ogungbemide, in Abuja.
Mohammed explained that the deployment was in line with the official declaration of Friday as the Eid-el-Kabir holiday in Nigeria.
He confirmed that no fewer than 36,000 regular and special marshals would be on duty during the operation.
“Around 750 patrol vehicles, 120 ambulances, 25 tow trucks, and over 200 motorcycles will be on the road for the special operation running from Thursday to June 11,” he stated, adding that the total logistics deployed amount to 1,095 units.
The Corps Marshal, who authorized the operation, emphasized that the goal was to ensure smooth traffic movement during and after the festivities. The mission includes providing rapid rescue services and swiftly removing road obstructions across key national routes.
He highlighted that reducing road traffic accidents through proactive patrol and sustained public education remains a core objective.“FRSC has consistently conducted special patrols during festive seasons to prevent the usual traffic chaos. This year’s Eid-el-Kabir operation will follow the same tradition,” Mohammed noted.
He urged motorists to follow traffic rules diligently, not only to avoid prosecution but also to stay safe on the roads. He instructed commanding officers nationwide to ensure proper coverage of the 52 designated traffic corridors throughout the operation.
He also said the operation will be carried out in collaboration with various security and emergency response agencies, including military units, the Nigerian Police Force, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Department of State Services (DSS), state and NGO ambulance providers, the National Network on Emergency Rescue Services (NNERS), and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA).
Mohammed called on all road users to cooperate fully with security personnel and to speak up against reckless driving to ensure a safe and orderly celebration for everyone.
