As part of ongoing efforts to enhance professionalism and promote respect for human rights, the Army Headquarters has conducted a sensitization workshop for personnel of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) in Jalingo, Taraba State.
The training, held on July 23, 2025, was facilitated by the Department of Civil-Military Affairs (DCMA) and aimed at reinforcing ethical conduct and legal awareness among troops during operations and civilian interactions.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General GU Chibuisi, highlighted the critical role of such engagements in shaping the behaviour of military personnel.
He said that the changing dynamics of security operations require strict compliance with legal standards and a commitment to upholding human dignity.“Our soldiers carry immense responsibility in these operations. It is crucial that their actions are guided by the law. Respect for human rights must be at the core of all we do” he noted.
General Chibuisi added that beyond military operations, the training was also geared towards building well-rounded soldiers who contribute positively to the society they serve.
In his welcome remarks, Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, reiterated the value of the workshop in strengthening the unit’s professionalism and dedication to protecting fundamental rights.
He recalled the commendable conduct of 6 Brigade troops during recent national protests, noting that their restraint and discipline ensured there were no casualties.“This training serves as both a refresher and a reminder of our sworn duty to safeguard lives and property,” he said, while commending the DCMA for the initiative.

General Uwa also acknowledged the support of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, for his commitment to the welfare and development of Army personnel.
The workshop included a series of lectures delivered by experts on key topics such as human rights, soldier conduct, substance abuse, mental health, family life and interactive sessions.
