Karim Lamido, Taraba State – Senator Shu’aibu Isa Lau, representing Taraba Northern Senatorial District, has donated a range of relief materials to victims of the recent communal clashes in Bandawa, Munga Lelau, and Munga Doso villages, located in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The donation, which includes 30 mattresses, 400 mats, 20 bags of rice, 20 cartons of spaghetti, and 500 blankets, is part of the Senator’s ongoing effort to bring succour to communities affected by the crisis that left many displaced and properties destroyed.
Speaking during the distribution of the items, Senator Lau, who was represented by his Senior Legislative Aide, Hon. Gidado Aminu, urged the affected communities to embrace peace as a catalyst for development and societal progress. He emphasized the importance of unity in the face of adversity, stressing that meaningful development can only take place in an atmosphere of peace and mutual understanding.
“I appeal to all residents of these communities to put aside their differences and focus on building lasting peace. Our strength lies in our unity,” the Senator noted.
He further disclosed that his office had reached out to relevant government agencies, including the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the North East Development Commission (NEDC), to facilitate more comprehensive support for the displaced residents.
While expressing his heartfelt condolences to families who lost loved ones and properties during the unfortunate incident, Senator Lau reiterated his commitment to peace-building, community reconciliation, and socio-economic development across his senatorial district.
“We will continue to collaborate with government institutions and humanitarian agencies to ensure that no one is left behind in the journey towards healing and reconstruction,” he assured.
The event attracted several notable figures, including Mr. Oliver Sulaiman, a member of the Taraba State Local Government Service Commission, and Mr. Markus Hamidu, the traditional titleholder of Garkuwan Bambuka, both of whom commended the Senator for his prompt and compassionate response.
In his remarks, Mr. Sulaiman described Senator Lau’s intervention as timely and exemplary, urging other political leaders to follow suit by prioritizing the welfare of their constituents.
Traditional leaders in the affected communities also expressed gratitude. The village head of Munga Lelau, Peter Besse, praised the Senator for standing with the people in their time of distress. He described the gesture as a testament to responsive leadership and called for increased security deployment in the area to forestall a recurrence of violence.
“We are grateful for this intervention. It shows that our plight has not gone unnoticed. However, we also appeal for more security presence to ensure lasting peace,” the traditional ruler stated.
The crisis, which erupted weeks earlier, was reportedly rooted in lingering communal tensions and land-related disputes. Local observers say the intervention of leaders like Senator Lau could play a pivotal role in bridging divides and promoting reconciliation.
As the relief items were distributed and words of hope echoed across the gathering, the message was clear: peace remains non-negotiable for the people of Karim Lamido if they are to rebuild their lives and communities.
