Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has instructed that June salaries be paid early to all civil servants in the state starting Monday.
This move is aimed at helping workers prepare for the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The announcement was made in a statement by the Governor’s Press Secretary, Malam Abubakar Bawa, on Saturday.
The directive includes employees at both state and local government levels, as well as staff of the Local Government Education Authority and pensioners.Bawa noted that this is the third time Governor Aliyu’s administration has expedited salary payments to assist workers during festive seasons.
Speaking from Saudi Arabia, where he is performing the Hajj pilgrimage, the governor said the early payment is intended to reduce financial burdens and allow workers to buy sacrificial animals and make adequate celebration plans.
Part of the statement reads, “I am using this medium to remind civil servants of the popular saying, to whom much is given, much is expected. Therefore, I expect you all to be committed and dedicated to your work”.
Uba Sani noted several initiatives undertaken by his administration to support the workers some of which include; prompt payment of salaries, restoration of cash allocations to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, distribution of Sallah gifts, and the clearance of outstanding gratuities and pensions.
“I expect the civil servants to reciprocate these efforts by being punctual and responsible at their places of work,” the Governor added.
