As the administration of Senator Shuaibu Isa Lau clocks two years at the National Assembly, constituents of Taraba North Senatorial District have begun to reap the benefits of a focused, inclusive, and people-driven leadership style that prioritizes grassroots development, access to basic services, and economic empowerment.

Elected in 2023, Senator Lau, who also serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation, has rolled out a comprehensive suite of interventions aimed at improving living standards, strengthening social infrastructure, and promoting self-reliance among the people of Taraba North.
One of the Senator’s standout achievements is the successful execution of rural electrification projects in areas long deprived of electricity. The completed project from Mararraba Zing through Apawa to Mayolope has begun stimulating economic activities and reducing rural-urban migration. A similar project from Mararraba Abbare to Abbare is currently underway.
Understanding the centrality of education to human capital development, Senator Lau embarked on the construction of school buildings across the district. Key projects include classroom blocks in Imam Malik School (Jalingo), Wakili Pugung Primary School (Yorro), Panti Yesseng Primary School (Yorro), and Mayo Renewo (Ardo-Kola)—each fitted to reduce overcrowding and encourage learning in rural and underserved areas.

To address gaps in basic healthcare, Senator Lau facilitated the renovation of the Pantisawa Town Dispensary in Yorro LGA, enhancing access to maternal care and primary treatment for surrounding communities.
Additionally, the Senator spearheaded the installation of over 15 solar-powered boreholes and hand pumps across Jalingo, Zing, Lau, and Yorro LGAs. Communities such as Bakin Kasuwa, Nana Aisha, Pupule, and Mararraba Kunini now enjoy clean water, curbing the spread of waterborne diseases and reducing the burden on women and children.
In November 2023, 360 students in tertiary institutions from Taraba North received scholarships aimed at easing financial burdens and encouraging academic excellence.
In August 2024, Senator Lau’s empowerment program—represented by his wife, Hajiya MammaFati—distributed vital tools such as sewing machines, industrial equipment, refrigerators, and farming inputs across the senatorial district. This initiative targeted unemployed youth and women to foster self-reliance and small-scale enterprise growth.
In response to prevailing economic difficulties, the Senator provided palliative materials—including food items and relief packages—once in 2023, thrice in 2024, and twice in 2025. These palliatives were targeted at the elderly, widows, orphans, and other vulnerable groups.
One of the most visible impacts of the Senator’s intervention is the widespread installation of solar-powered street lights in all 61 wards of Taraba North. Additional installations were done in over 50 specific communities including Unguwan Baba, Yakoko, Katibu Kasuwa, Madaka, Waru, Pantisawa, and Anguwan NEPA. This has drastically improved local security and supported night-time economic activities.
In partnership with SMEDAN and ATBU Microfinance Bank, Senator Lau facilitated cash grants to small-scale traders and entrepreneurs in June 2023. In addition, over 60 federal job placements have been secured for constituents across various MDAs and security agencies—a strategic step in tackling unemployment in the district.
On the legislative front, Senator Lau has sponsored two bills—both of which have scaled through the first reading and await second readings at the National Assembly. These efforts reflect his commitment to shaping national policy in alignment with the needs of his constituents.
In just two years, Senator Shuaibu Isa Lau has demonstrated a firm grasp of the needs of his constituents—channeling resources into tangible, life-impacting projects. With efforts spanning electrification, education, water supply, healthcare, empowerment, and legislative advocacy, his leadership is fast becoming a model of grassroots-oriented representation in the Nigerian Senate.
As the journey continues, the Senator reiterates his commitment to leaving no community behind in the ongoing quest for a more prosperous Taraba North.
